# Designer's Manual

> This section describes how you can create artwork for Customer's Canvas.

## Creating designs

There are several ways how you can create templates for the Customer's Canvas editors.

1. You can use Adobe InDesign or Photoshop as explained in the [creating templates in Adobe software](https://customerscanvas.com/docs/hub/designers-manual/adobe.md) section.
2. You can use [Template Editor](https://customerscanvas.com/docs/hub/designers-manual/template-editor.md) built into Customer's Canvas BackOffice. You may use it for designs created from a scratch or imported from Adobe files.

You should choose an approach depending on a scenario how you use Customer's Canvas:

- If you are using cloud version of Customer's Canvas (customerscanvashub.com) or it is installed as a private cloud, most likely you will go with the Template Editor or a hybrid approach (when you first import IDML or PSD and then edit it in Template Editor).
- If you are using Design Editor without BackOffice admin panel, most likely you are editing IDML or PSD and put them to Design Editor directly.
- You may also create designs in Template Editor, download them, and put files in Customer's Canvas format to Design Editor.

## Configuring design behavior for the end users

When creating designs, you have to think not just about how they look, but also about how they behave when a user starts modifying it. Should certain items be locked or visible? What a user can do with an item? How text elements should work if a user types too long text?

If you are editing designs in Template Editor, you can modify the behavior settings as explained in the [setup behavior overview](https://customerscanvas.com/docs/hub/designers-manual/template-editor/setup-behavior.md) of the Template Editor Guide.

For the designs created in IDML or PSD, you can set it up using so-called _markers_ - special shortcodes you put to the element names. You can learn about them at [marker reference](https://customerscanvas.com/docs/hub/designers-manual/adobe/markers.md). When you import or load such designs, Customer's Canvas automatically recognizes markers and converts them to the behavior settings.
