Preparing files for importing
Before you import your design to Customer's Canvas, you need to upload fonts and linked images from your design as well. To do so, you need to save your file properly.
In this section, you will consider how to prepare your design file for uploading to Customer's Canvas.
InDesign allows you to save files depending on your design content. Here, you will read recommendations to prepare an IDML file for uploading to BackOffice.
Note
You can upload your design only in the IDML format.
Let's see how you can prepare a design containing fonts.
Fonts
If your design contains text, you need to upload the fonts you used to BackOffice. To learn how to upload fonts, read the Fonts article.
Here, you can read recommendations about preparing fonts to upload to BackOffice.
Case 1. You have a few fonts in your design.
Recommendation. If you have quick access to your fonts, just drag and drop the fonts to your BackOffice tenant and save your file without packaging. To do so, read the How to save IDML files article.
Case 2. You have many fonts.
Recommendation. You can collect these fonts in one place by saving them in a package. Using a package, you can save your fonts in a separate folder, to upload them at the same time to your BackOffice tenant. To learn more about packaging, read the How to package IDML files article.
Images
Here, you will read recommendations about preparing a design file with images. Let's consider how to prepare a design with embedded images and linked images.
Linked images
Customer's Canvas supports linked images in your design. You may use linked images in the following cases:
You want to reduce your design file size. The initialization of a large design file may be prolonged.
You need to test your design file, and you will upload or update your file several times.
You have images linked to many designs. For example, you have different business card designs, but the background images are the same.
If you have linked images in your design, save your design file in a package. In this package, you will have your IDML file and linked images in a separate folder. To learn how to create a package, read the How to package IDML files article.
Then, upload these images to the Image section in your BackOffice tenant. Read the Importing from InDesign article to learn more about uploading linked images.
After uploading linked images, you can import your design file. To learn how to import an IDML file, read the Importing from InDesign article.
Embedded images
Customer's Canvas supports embedded images. If your images are embedded in your design, you can just import your IDML file to the Designs section in your BackOffice tenant. You may use embedded images in the following cases:
You have few images in your design file. These images don't significantly affect the file size.
You have a lot of designs with different images inside.
To learn how to embed an image, read the How to save IDML files article.
Note
The large size of a file may cause issues with uploading. You may reduce the size by creating linked images.
